Creating Africa’s most respected energy business

Vivo Energy is the corporate brand behind what was previously Shell’s downstream business across Africa. A joint venture by Shell, Helios and our client – Vitol, we were commissioned to name and create a suitable visual identity for the new entity.

The name reflects a youthful, energetic business with ambitious plans for a bright future; ‘Vivo’ meaning life, vitality, and vigour. The visual language and logo device (‘World of Energy’) further communicates the vibrancy and colours of the locality across Africa.

The brand was unveiled to employees, partners and stakeholders via short ‘town hall’ videos in parallel with the distribution of a book explaining the brand’s genesis and values localised in English and French. Our strategy and design engagement included a comprehensive set of brand toolkits outlining application across all touchpoints, from stationery and uniforms to wayfinding, websites and tankers.

Now operating in 23 countries across the continent with a network of over 2,400 service stations, Vivo Energy promises to become the most respected energy business in Africa.
